The Mabini Colleges High School Department's Youth for Environment in Schools Organization
Youth for Environmental and School Organization (YES-O) is a students organization with voluntary membership, that is held every year in every school here in the Philippines with the accordance to the corporation code of the Philippines (Batas Pambansa Blg. 68). This is a students’ organization program in which the environment is of a major concern to wake the awareness and initiative of the people to develop and help the threat further damage of the environment. It has been a program to promote the awareness of the condition of the environment.
Its purpose does not only focus at the environment itself but also as said, to inculcate the sense of awareness and initiative of improving the current situation of the environment. In this program the youth is ushered to their own individual ways of cleaning and improving their surroundings. The youth under this program has been given basic methods and of enjoying activities to have a strong unity within and without the youth itself thus, promotes empowerment towards every individual.
The Mabini Colleges High School Department's YES-organization is a DepEd mandated school organization with special linkagaes to Camarines Norte PENRO, Cam Norte DENR, Municipality of Daet and Barangay Bagasbas.
The constitution and by-laws of YES-O mandates an annual election every first week of March. A voluntary membership of students molds YES-O. Cleaning the area inside and outside the campus is one of the activities that the YES-O. The threat of Global Warming (an increase in the average temperature of the atmosphere, oceans, and landmasses of Earth) and pollution is overwhelming and if not given attention it would lead to the destruction of the environment totally that resides health-risk to the people.
This students organization enhances the social interaction of every individual particularly towards the students. The students are not only prompted and developed with the different activities and cleaning actions but also the students organization helps promote or inculcates the essence of unity on every individual under the program of the said organization
A. Tree Planting and Growing
Planting and Growing of endemic and local species of trees such as Narra, Molave, Philippine Teak, Acacia, Kamagong and fruit bearing trees are enjoined inside and outside of the school premises. Other tree species may also be planted provided there is a significant portion inside and outside of the school premises alloted for endemic and local species
B. Awareness Campaigns and Symposia on Environmental Issues and Actions
The Campaigns and Symposia should focus on Global Warming, Water Conservation, Watershed Protection, Deforestation, and Environment and Health Related concerns such as Dengue, malaria and Pollution.
C. Outreach Program
The YES-O shall conduct outreach programs in nearby communities such as coastal and road clean-ups, mangrove tree planting and many other.
D. Waste Management, Segregation, Recycling and Entrepreneurship Program,
All school entrances, exits and strategic corners must be placed with waste storage bins specifically marked or labeled appropriately for CANS, PAPERS, PLASTICS, BOTTLES/CONTAINERS, PLASTIC WRAPPERS, STYROFOAM, ETC. These waste storage bins must be kept dry for the materials to be useful. An arrangement must be made with organizations or institutions for the entrepreneural part of their program. A Materials Recoverry Facility (MRF), where usable and recycleable wastes may be processed and stored, maybe established in every school if possible.
E. Watershed Protection and Conservation
Where applicable, YES-O environment activities should include and prioritize identification of the watershed areas, reinvigorating of these areas thru planting and growing of endemic and local species, and protection thru awareness campaigns with nearby communities.
F. Environmental/Science Camps
The YES-O shall organize school-based environmental/science camps to consolidate environmental efforts and actions. The division and regional offices, through the division and regional supervisors/coordinators handling science, are encourage to organize a division-wide and region-wide environmental/science camps respectively. Topics maybe based on the annual Youth for environment summer YES camp.
